Good eats in San Francisco
A co-worker was asking around about some good places to eat in San Francisco, and since I have spent a lot of time in that city, I suggested these seven places where I have enjoyed good food over the years. So, if you are going to SF, consider this a quickie dining guide to some non-touristy places to get good grub:
Helmand (in the North Beach district) -- awesome Afghani food. Don't be put off by the fact you have to walk past strip clubs to get there, it is worth it.
Luna Park (in Mission District) -- eclectic food with some great pastas and specials, also the best Mojito in SF. An energetic and fun place.
Magnolia Pub (in Haight) -- the best microbrewery in SF, awesome local organic food too. Of special note are the cask-conditioned beers.
Farallon (Downtown) -- Really good, if slightly pricey and touristy fish and seafood, gotta love the name, cool décor also.
Thirsty Bear (SOMA) -- Another great microbrewery, also has awesome tapas and Spanish cusine. They have free flamenco dancing shows on Sunday nights also.
Home (Castro district) -- very tasty and stylish "comfort food" ... Good weekend brunch too.
Pizetta 211 (outer Richmond district) -- Some of the best pizza on Earth, super thin crust, very unique ingredients.
