More controversy in Kansas as a professor at the state university is being criticized for teaching a course that maintains "intelligent design" is a type of mythology, and who has sharply criticized proponents of intelligent design in a frank email message.

“This (professor) is a hateful man,” said state Sen. Kay O’Connor, R-Olathe. “Are we supposed to be using tax dollars to promote hatred?”

Senator O'Conner was one of the leading proponents of a state constitutional amendment in Kansas which banned same-sex marriages and civil unions.
