Having your cake and eating it too
I'm sure Sam Alito has matured intellectually in the past 20 years, but consistancy was not a virtue for Mr. Alito back in 1985 when he was bragging about his conservative credentials in a job application:
Alito also wrote that he believed "very strongly in limited government, federalism, free enterprise, the supremacy of the elected branches of government, the need for a strong defense and effective law enforcement and the legitimacy of a government role in protecting traditional values."
A government that meddles in the personal moral choices of its citizens is many things, but "limited" is not one of them.
